We worked with EMC3 to create a new VR football header game for BIBA Expo
We were approached by an Event Management Company, EMC3 with their clients brief for the BIBA Exhibition in Manchester. The brief outlined various requirements such as the theme, the space available on the stand, the fact it must be interactive, high tech, allow a quick turnaround of people and offer a leaderboard of results
Whilst we already have a football simulator, our penalty shootout, the dimensions of this would not be suitable for the clients brief. As the client was looking for something high tech, we began researching Virtual Reality options. We came across multiple 360 stadium tours, but these just offer an experience with no interaction. After some time researching the options we found a VR football heading game and set about contacting the game developer to find out more.
Game footage was sent on to the client for their thoughts and approval, they loved the idea but wanted to make a few amendments. The standard game option was 90 seconds, however to meet their projected footfall of people we had the game adjusted to 30 seconds, which still offered a great experience and suitable time to generate a fair score. The game could also incorporate their logo for further brand recognition, working with the software suppliers we arranged the branded footage and received the sign off from Towergate Underwriting, the end client.
All was coming together smoothly, software amendments had been completed and testing of the game had been carried out. We then embarked on the overall event delivery and set up for how the game was to be played. When testing the game, we discovered that to enable you to freely move your head, and virtually head the ball, participants would require a secure platform to hold onto for us to safely operate. We had our development team draw up some 3D plans for the build of a suitable gaming platform. This consisted of a raised base where participants would stand to receive the ball, a goal themed handle bar complete with astroturf and a cupboard to house the hardware for a sleek finish.
